CANTEEN

During designated times, campers may visit the Canteen to order snacks or personal items, which are limited to one food item and beverage per visit. This would include a candy bar or snack item plus a soft drink or bottled water. Additionally, low-fat and fat-free items are available as well. If you feel your child needs assistance in selecting Canteen items or restrictions on Canteen items, please indicate your instructions on the camper information form. There is no extra charge for snacks and drinks from the Canteen. Campers are allowed to purchase other items at an additional fee such as EKC clothing items, stamps, stationery, etc. Please fill out the form included in this packet or contact the office to make a deposit into your child’s canteen account. EKC reserves the right to control access to the Canteen for campers and staff at all times.

Receiving care packages is a great treat for campers. However, sending gum, candy or food of any kind is prohibited. If you choose to send packages, please follow these guidelines:

-Please limit care packages to 8 ½" x 11" manila envelopes.
-Please label packages with the same information as on letters and faxes.

Items that are appropriate include, but are not limited to: pens and paper, markers and crayons, coloring books, reading materials, puzzle books, stuffed animals, autograph albums, small games and toys. Administrative Staff open all packages and large envelopes. If a package has food items inside, we donate the contents to a local food pantry. Inappropriate, non-food items will be confiscated. The Camp Director reserves the right to make final determinations on the appropriateness of all items sent to campers. Please relay this information to anyone sending care packages to camp.

"Nosh", formerly know as "Canteen" is “snack time,” where all campers come to the Chadar O’Chell (Dining Hall) to have a snack with their cabin group. It only lasts 15 minutes, but it is a great opportunity to relax, see friends and family in other cabins/groups and of course get a good snack (which includes one item daily of potato chips, pretzels, candy, 100 calorie packs, brownies, and more and either water or soda. The campers choose their item daily)

FOOD

All food served at EKC is prepared in accordance with the Jewish dietary laws of kashrut (kosher). Your child will get plenty of wholesome, well prepared food. Camp meals include daily breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snack. Fruit, water and “bug juice” are available 24 hours a day in the Chadar Ochell (Dining Hall). Most meals are served family-style where staff help campers choose their own portions. Our salad bar, peanut butter and jelly, fresh fruit and an alternative vegetarian entrée are available for all campers at every meal. If your child has any special dietary needs, please contact our Health and Wellness Director and note them on the Camper Information Form.

EKC employs a professional food service company to handle our meal service. Menus are prepared in cooperation with a nutrition consultant. We attempt to balance good nutrition with institutional cooking needs and popular foods that campers enjoy eating
