Activities/Chugim
CABIN ACTIVITIES
Campers enjoy a challenging and diverse program of fun and exciting activities. From wake-up to evening snacks and lights out, a camper's day is filled with activities in any of the following program areas. Campers participate in most activities with the campers they live with in their bunk.

AQUATICS
With a private cove on Cheat Lake and a heated outdoor swimming pool, EKC is well equipped for a variety of water activities. Our lake activities include canoeing and kayaking, tubing, knee boarding and water skiing. New activities such as the "Rave" (water trampoline with a slide) and the "Blob" (airbag catapult into the water) are very popular. Our swimming pool hosts swimming lessons every morning and free swim activities and pool games in the afternoons. Younger campers receive lessons two to three times each week. Our camp follows American Red Cross standards for water safety.

ARTS
Our arts programs are composed of several different areas. Arts and crafts activities include projects involving instructional drawing, mosaics and beadworking, paint, leather and weaving, woodwork, fiber, and many other materials. Campers can sculpt and glaze their own ceramics in our pottery program. Drama activities and games are popular with cabin groups, and campers interested in performing in our all-camp play can spend time with this activity each session.

BIKING
Campers participate in our BMX biking program (grades 3-6) or mountain biking activities (grades 7-10) throughout the session.

CAMPERS' CHOICE
Campers in grades 5-10 are given the opportunity to "choose" some of their favorite activities rather than attend a program with their group. This allows campers who want to spend more time in a particular activity to decide for him or herself what to enjoy. Campers in grades 3 and 4 have a "Free Day" each session, when they get to sample activities like Camper's Choice for the day.

CHUGIM/CLUBS
Hebrew for "hobbies," Chugim is an opportunity for progressive programming, in which campers entering grades 3-10 return to a program area for continued instruction and activity time throughout the session.

HORSEBACK RIDING
Horseback riding takes place at our stables, where 18-20 horses are available for instructional trail rides in both English and Western styles. Campers also have the opportunity to learn the proper techniques of riding and horsecare.

JUDAICS
One of the most important elements of our mission is to give campers a positive experience with Judaic culture, history and tradition. We accomplish this by providing a positive Jewish atmosphere in which all campers are encouraged to explore their feelings of community and spirituality. Aside from Shabbat services and daily prayers, cabin groups take part in weekly "Kesher" ("connection") sessions with our Judaic Educator. Campers also spend time with our Israeli culture specialist. Singing sessions contain many Hebrew and Israeli songs, as well as popular favorites.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Campers build self-confidence and learn group cooperation while exploring nature and completing activities in this program area. Our Ropes Challenge Course contains 12 low elements and 10 high elements. Highlights of the course include our giant boulder, zip line, pamper pole, two climbing faces on our climbing wall, cargo net, vine traverse, giant's ladder and vertical playground. All elements and equipment are inspected and certified each camping season. Campers also participate in nature and environmental programming as daily activities. All campers experience at least one overnight each session. Campers entering grades 3-6 sleep at a campsite on our wooded property, campers entering grades 7 and 8 have a "two day" overnight trip and campers entering grades 9 and 10 spend a "three day" trip to a state park. Campers participate in our BMX biking program (grades 3-6) or mountain biking activities (grades 7-10) throughout the session.

OUTDOOR RECREATION
Our athletics program is the largest program area in camp. Campers enjoy traditional activities and instruction in sports such as soccer, basketball, deck hockey, tennis, archery, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and softball. Favorite activities at camp also include cricket, New Games and golf, a new program that is being developed more and more each summer.

UNIT PROGRAMS
Each age group is placed into units, and each unit has creative programs throughout the week. Highlights include evening programs and Saturday morning programs, when counselors and other staff create imaginative programs for campers to participate in as a group.
